Next step: Review your GEDCOM [20 August 2014]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Thornton Family Tree-1_2014-05-03.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

John Leavitt vs John Leavitt [20 September 2016]

Hi Jeanie,

I was glad that I read your site re: Percival Levett especially pertaining to John Leavitt 1608 & John Leavitt 1625. I've recently fleshed out a descendant of the 1608 John, John Wheeler Leavitt, an early and influential pioneer and large landholder in the Western Reserve of Ohio. I'd be very interested in straightening out the Leavitts in any manner that you find appropriate. If the 1608 John stands alone as an individual, I'm inclined to separate or at least heavily explain the undocumented relationship or lack thereof to Percival and Margaret.

Please give me your thoughts.. Cordially... Neal--SkippyG 20:58, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Answer to John Leavitt [20 September 2016]

May I quote your site ? By excerpt probably. I'll have to present an argument for removing him (especially to Wikipedia fans, who are numerous here). And I tried finding the baptisms for Percival's actual children, but came up short; unfortunately the Family Search result has no original Vol/pa, etc.--SkippyG 23:54, 20 September 2016 (UTC) which makes it a "weak" citation. Any idea where I could find them ? Neal

Jrich's input re: John Leavitt [21 September 2016]

I think Robert Charles Anderson is the best secondary source there is. That said, his use of "Unknown" reflects only the knowledge at the time of his publication, and that requiring a relatively high degree of proof. Meaning, that when he says unknown, there are often many possible hypotheses that are neither proven nor disproven. It appears RCA says absolutely nothing about Percival, either pro or con. So if somebody can present some argument based on documented facts that allows it to be a possibility, they should. On the other hand, any posting must fit with a birth about 1612 (based on date of marriage according to Anderson - before 1637 - not to mention grant of land in 1634, presumably verifiable events). If Percival had a son John baptized in 1625 that makes it extremely unlikely those events correspond to his son (relying on the website cited on Percival's marriage page). But 1625 seems an unlikely date given Percival's marriage in 1607, so maybe this website has the wrong family (it shows children bp. as late as 1640, about 33 years after marriage!). In other words, there is plenty of doubt on both sides. In any event, "NoAcceptedParents" is not really appropriate, since there are no accepted parents only because of our lack of knowledge, and anybody having good evidence would be doing us all a great service by posting what they know. Just because one person does not know, does not mean somebody out there doesn't. What is appropriate is to put sources that explain why they believe any particular assertion is true, or is not true, based on documented events that happened, or to fully explain any assumptions. If you can't do that, then it is probably best to post nothing. Genealogy by bald assertion cannot be tolerated in a collaborative environment. --Jrich 03:35, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

At present, I'm waiting for Jeanieroberts to tell me how to access the child bps for Percival & Margaret (I can't find them.) The marriage date is unreferenced and likely created to fit 1608 John. 1608 John will evolve, much in the way you view it, or I will remove it [Template] and do otherwise; another contributor added the template and disconnected him from Percival. Too late here to do anymore searching, and I have appointments tomorrow - you'll have to wait for the page to develop until at least Thursday.--SkippyG 04:09, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

P.S. Jeanie, this is Jrich's input above. If you have a response, please jump in.

Neal can you send me your email and I will send you links to the baptismal records for the ones I have, some are actual images and some transcriptions. You can contact me through my website, to avoid putting an email address here.

My only comment right at the moment, It's too early to think, is that we do not know an actual marriage date for Percival. The marriage date of 1607 is only a hypothetical date based on a birth date for a child born in 1608.--Jeanieroberts 12:02, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

Joseph & Anna's bap. [22 September 2016]

I'll see if I can get better instructions on embedding the image. I tried some searching today, but seems everything I wanted to search was behind the Ancestry wall. Aaarrg....--SkippyG 01:55, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Back to the drawing board.

John Leavitt study [27 September 2016]

Hi Jeanie, You might want to "Watch" the following page, which Jrich created, a study of Levett/Leavitt in Yorkshire, a way of keeping track and analyzing the found records for this family. If you have time, you might want to give a list of all the "original" images you have from FindMyPast. I'll be gone Oct. 1 to Oct. 6 Neal --SkippyG 15:09, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

Leavitt study [1]

Samuel Levett [6 October 2016]

Hi Jeanie, Just returned from 5 days in the Southwest. I added Samuel Levett with parents as Percival Jr. & Jane ( )Levett. I've adopted the surname spelling for persons born in Yorkshire, based only on the more frequent use of the spelling in Vital Records over Levit/Levitt/Levit and the absence of Leavitt. If you have the original christening for Samuel, could you add the image to his page ? I'll add the source later today or tomorrow. I've not added the "middle children" of Percival Levett, since no records for a Margaret Linkley have as yet been found, and we have no death or burial date for Mary ( ) Levett either. Thanks ! Neal --SkippyG 14:09, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

The originals are not online. I found the transcript at FreeReg2.--Jeanieroberts 15:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
