Mort-1796.ged is being held for review

The pages from "Mort-1796.ged" have not yet been generated because they appear to match pages from a GEDCOM you have previously imported to WeRelate. Please be patient while we take a look at your GEDCOM. If it turns out that the people in Mort-1796.ged don't really overlap people you have imported previously, your pages will be generated right after the review, which should happen tomorrow (or Monday if tomorrow falls on a weekend).

If you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in Mort-1796.ged, you have two options:

  1. Open the tree containing the information from the previous GEDCOM using Family Tree Explorer and delete the tree, then create a new tree and re-import this GEDCOM, or
  2. If the two GEDCOMs don't overlap that much, leave a message for Npowell. We'll go ahead with the import, after which you'll want to merge the overlapping people by hand.
-WeRelate agent 14:16, 21 July 2007 (MDT)
I noticed that this GEDCOM looks the same as the last one. Is there something wrong with the first GEDCOM you uploaded? Let me know, and thanks for using WeRelate! -Nathan 14:34, 21 July 2007 (MDT)

Cathays [1 August 2007]

Hi, Noticed you created a place page for "Cathays." I need a little more information. Is Cathays a country, county, city, etc. Is it contained inside another place? do you have approximate Latitude and Longitude for it? History?  :D --sq 19:34, 31 July 2007 (MDT)

Name order for families [2 August 2007]

Hi Colin,

Just a quick tip that we put the husband's name first, then the wife's, on Family pages. I made some corrections to the Unknown Greenoff and Ethel White page.  :-D

Bayles.ged appears to overlap a previously-imported GEDCOM [4 January 2008]

The pages from this GEDCOM have not yet been generated because they appear to match pages from a GEDCOM you have previously imported to WeRelate.

If you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM and you want to replace that tree with this GEDCOM, you need to delete that tree first so duplicates aren't created when you import this GEDCOM. Go to the Family Tree page, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on the "delete" link next to that tree. Please be aware that any pages in that tree that are being watched by others won't get deleted. Once that tree is deleted you can create a new tree and re-upload this GEDCOM into it. (We're planning to make re-uploading GEDCOM files much simpler later this Fall.)

If you don't think you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM, or if the two GEDCOM's don't overlap that much, leave a message for Dallan or send an email to dallan@WeRelate.org and we'll go ahead with the import.

Could you tell me what jurisdiction Kensal is in? We have several Kensals in the index.

Thanks,

Kensal Town is a district of London

see link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kensal_Town--Colin Madge 08:21, 3 July 2009 (EDT)

Hello Colin,
Because genealogists are usually interested in historic places, I renamed the page to for the old village. Place:Kensal Town, London, England. If you meant to create a page for the modern district in London, you can click on Place:Kensal Town, Greater London, England. Please select enter "district" in the type field. Thanks for getting back to me. :) --sq 19:14, 3 July 2009 (EDT)

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate lines and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Saying Hello [14 October 2012]

I have just joined the WR "place patrol" and have volunteered to do work on the UK. I hope you don't feel I am intruding.

My genealogical experience is basically in Ontario, Canada, and in southern Scotland. However, I have lived in England for more that 40 years and some knowledge has rubbed off over time.

If you are overloaded with entries to inspect or want a second opinion, do get in touch. The Canadian part has no one else on it, so that's where I will find myself working most of the time.

Regards --goldenoldie 10:57, 14 October 2012 (EDT) (aka Pat)

English Jurisdictions 1851 [17 October 2012]

Opened up my computer this morning to see a blog message on http://about.com/genealogy describing English Jurisdictions 1851. For any place in England it gives the historical parish, the civil parish, the poor law union, etc).

This is a very simple reference tool where one can check the historical parish, the civil parish, the poor law union, and the higher organizational authorities for any place in England. It is tied to Google maps so one can have a look at the present geographical picture as well. --goldenoldie 02:34, 17 October 2012 (EDT)--goldenoldie 02:57, 17 October 2012 (EDT)

Deletion of Person & Family pages [1 November 2012]

Hi Colin, I noticed that you deleted a number of your pages the other day. There are pages that remain that have no person pages attached, and contain little identifying information such as Family:John Ashforth and Sarah Hollingsworth (2). This could make it difficult for fellow researchers to identify if these pages are for people they are researching. This search will list these Person and Family pages. If you need any help, just let me know. --Jennifer (JBS66) 10:11, 1 November 2012 (EDT)

England pages [2 November 2012]

Last night I was browsing around other people's pages when I found a man born in 1880 in "Birmingham, West Midlands". This surprised me because the West Midlands did not exist until 1974.

Curiosity then got the better of me and I looked at the West Midland's "Contained Places". From there I made the discovery that places which are found in their historic/ceremonial/geographic counties have been duplicated in the West Midlands. Many of the places (of considerable size) are described as Unknown in their historic counties. The Google maps are attached for the West Midlands but not in the historic county.

The problem appears to be that the "Also located in" box has never been used to link the appropriate parts of Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire to the West Midlands and vice versa. Please take a look at Aldridge and Brownhills where I have merged the two place pages and made what I hope is a proper correction.

So far, time has not allowed me to inspect other parts of England where the same type of omission may have occurred, but I thought it appropriate to advise you of the problem before going further.

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded white.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

"(Person:Esther Unknown (254) renamed to Person:Esther Unkown (1): make page title agree with name)": It was a typo. I undid your rename and fixed the typo. --Jrich 12:13, 20 January 2013 (EST)

Thanks for bringing up the non-traditional family question! [28 January 2013]

I'm going to add some ideas for non-traditional family type facts to the future directions section of WeRelate:Suggestions/Assertions. Please keep an eye, offer comments, and if you wish, participate in coming up with something over there. Thanks! --jrm03063 11:29, 28 January 2013 (EST)

voting [27 July 2017]

Hi

Thanks for voting on the requests. Can I ask you to make a change, though. You voted 2 points to format the date field, and the voting system requires you to vote in multiples of the request's effort. Since this request is assigned 3 points, you have to vote at least 3 points to make this change. You have 2 votes remaining, so you could change your vote from 2 points to 3. Would you please do so. And you can use your last vote on any 1-point request. Thanks--DataAnalyst 23:46, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

Abersychan, Monmouthshire, Wales [14 October 2017]

Hi Colin, I recently renamed/redirected Place:Abersychan, Monmouthshire, Wales to Place:Saint Thomas Churchyard, Abersychan, Torfaen, Wales based on the information that was previously on the page which indicated that it was of Type=Cemetery and associated with the church of St. Thomas. However, in looking back over what is now linking to that page, I think that I may have jumped to a conclusion too quickly and that the intention was not for this to be the page for the cemetery at St. Thomas church, but rather the community of Abersychan which lies within the boundaries of the historic county of Monmouthshire. A page for that community already exists. Since you had done a lot of editing to the page a few years ago, I wanted to run it by you to see what your opinion was on this.

Could you take a look and tell me if you intended for the page to be for the cemetery or the community? Based on your response, I can make some adjustments to make sure that all of the people and families are linking to the proper place. Thank you, --cos1776 21:37, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
