I am researching the name Drexhage. The name originated from a hamlet called Drexhage or Dreckeshage, originally situated in "Vogtei Oerlinghausen "Baurschaft Greste", in the present day part of Leopoldshöhe,NRW,BRD and still visible on a map in 1926.

The first find of the name Dreckeshagen was in Salbuch der Grafschaft Lippe von 1620: "Jobst uffm Dreckeshagen I.G. eigen, dey Fruwe frey" (Jobst auf dem Dreckshagen ist Ihrer gnädigen Herrschaft - also dem Grafen zu Lippe - eigen, die Frau ist frei.) Meaning: Jobst was actually not free to leave the farm unless he paid. A form of serfdom.

The name Drexhage is first found in the parish register of Oerlinghausen (Evangelisch Reformiert) around 1687, according to Familysearch. Between 1686 and 1699 five marriages can be found with the name Drexhage, all male. So far no other parish register in Lippe or Ravensberg shows before 1700 an entry for Drexhage. Thereafter the name appears in more parish registers, first in Schoetmar. The name appears also in different variations, such as: Dreckshage(n), Drexhagen, Drekshage(n) and other forms due to he known problem of writing the name in the parish register or reading the name from it. In this project I use the surname Drexhage for all our proven ancestors. The project is also to show all the persons named Drexhage, descending from Johann Jobst Karl Drexhage (1812-1888) . He was the first Drexhage who married and settled in 1845 in the Netherlands. There are at the moment ( Aug 2017) 107 descendants from J.J.K. with the name Drexhage, of which 76 are living in the Netherlands.
