Hi, There,

I'm amazed at all the family histories my relatives have. Most of them have proved false.

There are relatives descended from a famous person, only to discover the famous person was only a cousin, still . . .

One of the stories involved a grandparent coming directly from Holland. Turned out by way of a Dutch settlement in Canada. I thought it was very interesting. But, my elderly relative was very distraught when I gave her the information. She felt she had been lied to all her life.

Some stories I really can't explain. My grandfather was told that his grandfather was the 1st generation to be born in this country. And that person's father was suppose to have entered the country at Baltimore. Imagine all the ship records I have gone through. Well, census records, birth records, etc. have his grandfather well in this country by many generations. Did someone think it was more romantic or a better story the other way? No idea.

And another thing, I've seen documentation for a person with all sorts of birthdates, birthplaces & other errors. A headstone is suppose to be the "LAW". My great-great-grandmother's headstone has a birthdate making her a full 10 yrs younger! She might have intended that :)

By now, you should realize I'm interested in the truth, not just pretty stories. So, if you should see something wrong, Please jump in and Correct, and Please (if you can) Provide Documentation for the change.

Thank You :)
