Redmire (#27 on map) is now a civil parish and a village in the Richmondshire District of North Yorkshire, England. It is about 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Leyburn in Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales. In the UK census of 2011 it had a population of 384 including the inhabitants of neighbouring Castle Bolton which numbered less that 100. [This is Office of National Statistics standard practice for dealing with parishes of this size.]

Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Redmire was located in Leyburn Rural District. Historically, it was located in the ecclesiastical parish of Wensley in the Hang West Wapentake.

The following description from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72 is provided by the website A Vision of Britain Through Time (University of Portsmouth Department of Geography).

"REDMIRE, a township-chapelry, with a small village, in Wensley parish, [North Riding of] Yorkshire; on the river Ure, 4¾ miles W of Leyburn [railway] station. Post-town, Leyburn, under Bedale. Coal is found; lead was formerly mined; and there is a strong sulphurous spring. The living is a [perpetual] curacy, united with the chapelry of Bolton, in the diocese of Ripon. Value: £115. Patron: the Rector of Wensley. The church has a Norman doorway. There is an endowed school with £19 a year."
