This Ordnance Survey map of 1900 from A Vision of Britain through Time locates all the original rural districts established in Wiltshire in 1894. In 1934 there were a number of mergers of neighbouring districts.
Malmesbury Rural District was in the northwest corner of Wiltshire with the county of Gloucestershire beyond both its northern and western borders. It was north of Chippenham Rural District, and west of Cricklade and Wootton Bassett Rural District. Malmesbury Rural District existed from 1894 until 1974 when it became part of the North Wiltshire District.
