Hackforth (#13 on map) is a civil parish and a small village in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, England, about 4 miles (6 km) north of Bedale (#3). Nearby settlements include Langthorne (#18) and Crakehall (#8).

Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Hackforth was part of Bedale Rural District. Historically, it was located in the ancient and ecclesiastical parish of Hornby (in Leyburn RD) in the wapentake of Hang East.

GENUKI includes a short biography of Bishop Tunstall (circa 1474-1559) who was born at Hackforth.

The following description from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72 is provided by the website A Vision of Britain Through Time (University of Portsmouth Department of Geography).

"HACKFORTH, a township in Hornby [ancient] parish, [North Riding of] Yorkshire; 4¼ miles NNW of Bedale. Acres: 1,264. Real property: £1,957. Population: 167. Houses, 28. The property belongs to the Duke of Leeds. Bishop Tunstall was a native."
