[edit] The Hamlet
Fodderty (Scottish Gaelic: Fodhraitidh) is a small hamlet, close to Dingwall, in Ross-shire in the Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland. The small hamlet of Bottacks is located 1 mile to the west and just to the east is Brae or Brea, formed in 1777 from the lands (long held by a branch of the Mackenzies) of Davochcarn, Davochmaluag and Davochpollo. The growing village of Dingwall now encroaches on Fodderty. [edit] The ParishFodderty is a parish located in the Highland Council Area, some 10 miles (15 km) northwest of Dingwall and 14 miles (22 km) west of Alness. It stretches northwest into the hills from the foot of the Cromarty Firth and the River Conon. Between 1890 and 1975 the parish was located in the old county of Ross and Cromarty, which was replaced in that year by the Highland Region and in 1996 by the unitary authority named the Highland Council Area. Prior to 1890 Fodderty was one of the detached parts of Cromartyshire that were scattered around the northern part of Ross-shire. The parish has an area of 190.8 sq. km (73.7 sq. miles). The parish includes the village of Strathpeffer and the smaller settlements of Maryburgh and Auchterneed as well as Fodderty. Conon Bridge is just across the parish border in Urquhart and Logie Wester.
