Caerwent is now a village and community in Monmouthshire, Wales. It is located about five miles west of Chepstow and eleven miles northeast of Newport.

Caerwent was formed in 1935 when there was a move to reduce the number of parishes within Chepstow Rural District. Its area was previously covered by the parishes of Dinham, Llanvair Discoed, St. Brides Netherwent, and the original Caer Went.

In 1974, as noted above, Caerwent became a Welsh "community", first in the county of Gwent, and then in 1996 in the reorganized County of Monmouthshire.
