Bengeo, a northern suburb of the county town of Hertford in Hertfordshire, was separated into Bengeo Urban and Bengeo Rural civil parishes in 1894 on the introduction of urban and rural districts. Six years later Bengeo Urban was absorbed into Hertford itself, while Bengeo Rural continued to be a rural district until 1974 when rural districts across the country were abolished. It is now in the East Hertfordshire District. Bengeo was north of the centre of Hertford. According to the 2001 UK census it had a population of 601. The parish includes the villages of Tonwell and Chapmore End. [edit] Research Tips
