Impure genealogy, I guess [7 February 2012]

The Littleton records show Samuel Chase b. 1728 to Samuel and Mary, then Dudley in 1730. Sutton records start with Jonathan in 1732, and continue on. So the "Marcy" born 1716/17 would have been not even 12 when her first son was born? Samuel Chase's wife is buried in Cornish, NH, d. 1789, age 78 (Find A Grave), so born about 1711. There could not have been any marriage to Thomas Ross, because she was not older enough to have an earlier marriage, and Samuel Chase lived until 1800 so she was still married to him when she died in 1789. So who is this Thomas Ross person? --Jrich 01:16, 7 February 2012 (EST)

I was just trying to connect a Revolutionary Era WP person back into their immigrant roots quickly, so probably relied on something I shouldn't have. I didn't cite anything so obviously I wasn't too proud of it! By all means, change anything you think appropriate... --jrm03063 08:54, 7 February 2012 (EST)
I am and will be changing this. It is just frustrating because the lack of sources, and the apparent unquestioning acceptance of the first data found in the rush to fill-in the data, are methods that actually tend to cause errors. I don't want such quality issues to give people bad impressions of WeRelate. "Genealogical purity" (to use your term) is not an option, it is the only way good genealogy gets done, and if you cut corners, you get the mistakes.
