Surnames in the Netherlands [13 January 2013]

Only by exception there were familynames before 1811. The rule for name is Given Name and Patronymic, in WeRelate the convention is to enter the patronymic as surname when no surname is existent. The patronymic Claessens is not correct.--Klaas 11:41, 13 January 2013 (EST)

That is fine, I did not know that. I was told this was a reliable website and that the information would be factual. This is a link to Martjen Nantkes parents showing Claessens for the name. http://gw2.geneanet.org/ligenima?lang=en;pz=nilaine+chantal;nz=de+haan;ocz=0;p=nantko;n=claessens. I am sorry if I have been entering incorrect information.--Parkave777 11:48, 13 January 2013 (EST)

For the data of families from Groningen the best digital source is www.allegroningers.nl. I think the added familynames are originally from a publication about the Dallinga-family (20? years ago). Although the data are in general correct in this publication, the surnames are a bit too much generalized. As soon as a surname for a person is given in a record during the persons lifetime I am the first to enter this.--Klaas 11:58, 13 January 2013 (EST)
