Person talk:Herman Meter (1)

From Herman Meeter (1): Identity [20 April 2015]

I'm pretty sure this is the son of John and Cornelia Meeter.

I'm not sure what would constitute convincing proof. Obviously a death certificate listing his parents would, but if he died in Indiana between 1920 and the start of the SSDI epoch no death date is likely to be forthcoming.

Curiously, while the 1910 census correctly lists the birthplace of both parents as Holland and Holland, the 1920 census lists the birthplaces of his parents as Holland and Michigan. That is a very curious error; it seems to refer to his step-mother, who was in fact born in Illinois, but we know her family also had ties to the German Graafscap CRC in Allegan County, Michigan.

I see at least one Ancestry tree that makes this identification, and I don't see any other Meeter family with a matching child, so I'm inclined to make the link.
