Civil War [6 November 2011]

Which regiment did Henry Bogardus serve in? We're trying to mark all of the Civil War veterans here on WeRelate. Thanks! --Amy (Ajcrow) 07:49, 6 November 2011 (EST)

The book, A genealogical history of the ancestors and descendants of General Robert Bogardus, by Maria Sabina Bogardus Gray, which mentions Henry Livingston Bogardus as the only son of Alonzo L. A. Bogardus and Emma Livingston, does not specify which "New York volunteer" regiment he "became a Captain" in. The National Park Services Civil War Soldiers and Sailors site (http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.cfm) lists three Union Henry Bogardus entries from NY. Two are under Henry L. Bogardus, NY Cavalry Officer, while the other is under Henry Bogardus, NY Infantry enlisted. Since the Henry L. Bogardus listings most closely match the information from M.S.B.Gray's book, it would seem to me that one, or probably both, of the listings below are for Henry Livingston Bogardus:

Henry L. Bogardus (First_Last) Regiment Name 5 N.Y. Cavalry Side Union Company C Soldier's Rank_In 1 Lt. Soldier's Rank_Out Lt. Alternate Name Notes Film Number M551 roll 12

Henry L. Bogardus (First_Last) Regiment Name 11 N.Y. Cavalry Side Union Company F,I Soldier's Rank_In 1 Lt. Soldier's Rank_Out Lt. Alternate Name Notes Film Number M551 roll 12--Rtengel 09:28, 6 November 2011 (EST)
