From A genealogical history of the ancestors and descendants of General Robert Bogardus by Maria Sabina (Bogardus) Gray: "Henry Livingston Bogardus, the only son of Alonzo L. A. Bogardus and Emma Livingston, was born in 1837. When the Civil War broke out he became a Captain of one of the New York volunteer regiments, and fought valiantly until its close, when his death occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1866, from exposure and hardship during service. He had married, in 1865, a Miss Dora Shaw."

He appears in the 1860 U.S. Census (1st District of 12th Ward, New York County, New York, p. 171, Family 1255 - one family below his mother Emma's family, headed by her second husband Robert Johnston (sic Johnson)). Henry is listed in the same family as a Caroline Bogardus (first wife?).
