William Woods was born in the East Part of Hanover Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in about 1735 and died at Gillespie's Station, Blount County, Tennessee in 1788. He married Mary Hannah of Paxtang Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in about 1760. She was born in about 1739 at Paxtang Township and died about 1806 in Washington County, Tennessee.

Their son, William Woods, was born in North Carolina on April 25, 1771 and died at Greenwood, Indiana on December 29, 1848. He married Keziah Acklin at Abingdon, Virginia on July 9, 1796. She was born at Abingdon, Virginia on April 25, 1778 and died at Blount County, Tennessee on February 7, 1820. William married again to a widow, Mary (Hanna) Brown of Hawkins County, Tennessee on February 22, 1821. She was born on March 5, 1786 and died at Greenwood, Indiana on October 10, 1849.
