Acquisition of Land in Augusta County, VA:

  • William Wilson acquiried 281 acres of land in the "Bull Pasture" area of Augusta County, before 1754, as listed below in the "Processioning List" shown below.
  • Page 283.--19th May, 1761. James Hughs and Euphie (Euphemia), of Staunton, to William Willson, of Staunton, £15, part of two lots: A, in Staunton, part of lot __; B, 2-1/2 acres, part of a lot of 30 acres woodland betwixt Col. Preston's and Joseph Gamble's woodland lot about 1/2 mile northwest of Staunton, part of lot No. 10. Delivered: Edward Long, August Court, 1765.

  • Page 195.--17th March, 1768. William Wilson and Mary ( ) of Albemarle County to Abraham Haptonstall (Hoplenstall), £46, 112 acres on a branch of New Found Creek. Delivered: James Thomas, April, 1773. (Note: it appears that based upon these records that William Wilson and his family had re-located to Albemarle County, Virginia prior to 1768, most likely due to the Indian uprisings in the Augusta County area during the 1750's and 1760's).
  • Page 1.--25th August, 1770. William Wilson and Mary ( ), of Albemarle and John Hunter, Sr., and Frances, of Augusta, to Francis Hart, grove of Staunton, £40. In Staunton, part of lot No, 14, 5 poles north and south and 4 poles east and west, only excluding a house on northwest corner wherein Edward Long lived, of 18 by 22 feet in length and breadth. Lot faces James Hustons front on south and James Huse on west, containing 20 square perches, only reserving said house; also 2-1/2 acres wood land on south end of lot of 30 acres between (betwixt) Col. William Preston's land and Joseph Gamble's wood land, about 1/2 mile northwest of Staunton bounded according to courses of Staunton, lot No. 10. Delivered: Francis Harterove, 9th September, 1773.

William Wilson and Mary, of Albemarle County, to John Ridpath, £14, part of lot 14 in Staunton, joining the house where Edward Long forerly lived, facing Mrs. Huse's new house; also the land whereon the house stands wherein Edward Long lived. (Note: the Wilson and Poage families were apparently very close, William Wilson's brother James married an Elizabeth Poage).
