His twin sister Ethel died in child birth. Bill was extremely anemic at birth and could not eat regular food or milk. The Doctor put him on Ovaltine and had Waddy build a sand box so Bill could get plenty of sun. They were named after Everett and Lulu's friends Bill and Ethyl Startsman. Bill was very interested in aeroplanes. He got a job at the Ford Lansing Airport in Lansing, IL. bought a bicycle and rode to work each day from Ogden street.[this must have been about 7 or 8 miles]. He worked as a mechanic. He took flying lessons. One day the instructor rolled the plane and Bill fell out. He was OK but lost his shoes and the rip cord. He became a member of the "Caterpillar Club". Membership to those whose lives were saved by a parachute. Bill lost control of his car on the Indianapolis bridge over the Erie railroad tracks in Highland, In. He died of shock. This could have been prevented if he had been properly treated at the scene of the accident.
