Information on William Sims

'William Simms was the son of Richard Simms and wife Joanna, and the family lived in Orange Cty. after Richard came up from one of the lower counties. William Simms was born Feb. 25, 1731, married Anestar Step, daughter of Joshua, Aug. 6, 1751. There were 3 children: Elizabeth, b. 12/3/1752; James, b. 5/10/1755; Lucy, b. March 24, 1758.

This is from the William Simms Bible (copied by W. E. Brockman):

Anestar died between 1758 and 1760, for William Simms married his second wife on 2/2/1761, Agatha, and the Bible reads 'Joanna Simms, daughter of William Sims and Agatha Simms, was born 1762.' From this record we have assumed that Agatha Simms, the second wife of William was a Simms, daughter of James and Elizabeth, by the way James is spelled, JAMS, was born 4-2-1737, and married William Sims 2/2/1761 (died 1812). The surname of Jams and Elizabeth is torn out of the Bible and whether it was Step or Sims, is not definitely known.
