I have just gone through the correspondence I have received over the last two years and I have two corrections in what I sent to you. 1. William of the Rev War b. 1747 on his pension and 2. In Benjamin Swift Sexson's letter he says that William and Leah had three children at the end of the war and their family grew to 10 boys and 2 girls. (your 12) The names he gave are: Arhchie, Isaac, Ollie, James, Enoch, Peggy, Jacob, William, Free, Lemuel, Joel and Esom.

I hope maybe you can sort this out and maybe have something concrete. I have been so deluged with information and there doesn't seem to be many records. I have not been at this very long by comparison, just 5 years, but I am a history buff and have done a lot of research. This is a tangle.

Hi I will try to address your other questions. This is what I have.

??????? John of Lunenburg see msg 1554 on the Sexton Forum. William and James Sexton see msg 1927 on the Sexton Forum.

The children in the line that the parents are in question William Benjamin Archibald Elizabeth John Pryor

The question I have is whether or not the William and Benjamin that enlisted in the Rev. War in Augusta County are the same as the William and Benjamin listed in Lunenburg. The war veterans went together to KY after the war. (pensions claims). There is a William in Lunenburg who was arrested several times a/w court documents, info from Willis. There is a William that came to Virginia from Ireland as a bound enforced passenger in 1741 and a James that came bound in 172?/3? I have ordered the book.

Archibald and John are obviously the ones in Lunenburg they enlisted in Charlotte County which came from Lunenburg County and John married, after the war, in Bedford County a part of Charlotte County. He put in a claim for Arche's pension, as a surviving brother, so Arche was obviously the one that died at Brandywine.

My family information that I have listed is validated by census' and death certificates. Archibald(Archelaus)/Sarah DavisVA IN census, land records Isaac/Mary Wickliff VA IN MO census, land records Ezekiel/Mary Ellen Nickelson IN MO census, land records Andrew/Sarah Cramer IN MO KS NE OK IT census, land records, Death Certs. Bessie Gertrude/Francis Marion Leonard My family(no matter what anyone says

I do know my family LOL) Dorothea Leonard(Gadberry)/Gene Ross Gadberry Me (Duh)

Anything back beyond Arche and Sarah is not proven, unless you have some information that can help. I have decided the best way for me to go is through Mary Lee and Leah (?Free/Ferree).

"Note", the Joel of the Benjiman Swift Sexson ancestor married Abigail Davis and my GGGGrandmother was Sarah Davis so I believe that my William was a son of William or James from Ireland. Hi It was very late when I typed the information and my head gets so bogged down in this. Answers to your questions: 1a. James and William from Ireland - the only information I have on these two men is from a letter that has been circulating for years, from Benjamin Swift Sexton descendant of Joel. There are people feuding over this letter and as far as I can tell no one has any actual validation or disproof of it. The information keeps getting circulated and is backed up from several different family lists.

My position: I believe this two men are real. In my family it has always been accepted that my Sexton' ancestors came from Ireland. My Grandfather was

Scotch Irish and French (Ferree??). I am not accepting anything as gospel until I have some validation. (to my satisfaction)

1. b. John Sexton of Lunenburg and the children I have listed, with the exception of Pryor and Charles were recently discovered in court documents of that county. The records show these children were bound out when John died in 1763, Charles is assumed the oldest by subsequent land records and not bound out, Pryor the baby kept by the Mother ???. Willis Sexton found the court record and is researching it at this time. There were so many people who challenged him, I am afraid I was one of them, that he has not put out any further information. He is an excellent researcher and provided me with much information which I was then able to establish. Relationship between an Archibald and John, not necessarily the ones from Lunenburg, was established by a letter from John making claim to Archibald's pension. Reece Sexton has copy of the letter.

My position: There is no proof that these bound out children are the ones we are searching for. James (could be William), Sexton and Mary Lee, of Augusta then Wythe, also have a William and a Benjamin. I am waiting on information about these people. Also Archibald and John enlisted in the Army in Charlotte which was Cornwall Parish (where the children were bound out) a part of Lunenburg. John, brother of Brandywine Arche, was married in Bedwell, a part of Charlotte. William and Benjamin enlisted in Augusta and "I" believe were born in Augusta. I am researching an Isaac Free(Ferree) as the Father of Leah who resided in Patterson Manor in Augusta County from 1740 to 1771. It was then sold to John Gilmore.

THERE IS NO VALIDATION (TO MY KNOWLEDGE) FOR ANY OF THE INFORMATION ABOVE THAT TIES EVERYTHING TOGETHER.

There is controversy over the birth date of Leah. Willis is of a mind that she is not the Mother of the first three children (Archibald, Isaac, Olivia) and I am pretty sure she is. (family memories). Her age is based on William's War pension application where he "allegedly says," she is about sixty. He was 82 years old and could not read or write. Considering the horrible spelling and errors made by the people in those days I think she was about seventy. I also believe (have to check this) he said he was 78 and he was 82. There are statements made, by references, that put them together with three children before the war, and never has any mention of another wife been made. She is accepted as Mother of James, b. early 1770's, she would have been about 8 years old. I have ordered books on the History of Augusta and Wythe Counties.

About Joseph of Wythe (NY) who descended from George and Katherine from England. I am satisfied there is no direct connection to my William, Archibald and Benjamin although they do have a Benjamin and a few others by the same names, no William. The name Saxton that has been confused with Sexton, Sexson etc. is from the English. I have ordered a book by Frances McDonnell, "Emigrants Ireland to America 1623 to 17??".

The confusion is due to the fact that so many of the records from these counties were burned in the late 1800s. As you can see nothing has been proven and may never be. I am trying to find Mary Lee and Leah's lineage.

There are many people in the area of Grayson County formerly Wythe, Smyth, named William, Archelaus, John, James, Benjamin. Sarah and Mary are the most common female name.

Is this clear as mud? Will address the other questions in later email.

Isaac b. 1775 Olivia b. 1780 these may or may not be children of Leah, her birth date given as about 1766 a/w William's pension records. William could not write so I have doubts about the information. It was copied by a third party. Joel, their son that filed for the pension, 1839, after Leah's death, stated that they had other children long since dead. However, this is ignored and most people get their information from the reported statement that she was about 60 years old in 1826.
