WILLIAM IRELAND, SR., b 1754, in Pa., Md., or N.C. He m Jennett (Jane) Miller, (dau. of John Miller, who gave his consent) in the 'Peaked Mountain" Church, at McGaheysville, Va., in the Shenandoah Valley, on the 21st day of August, 1778, (bond on the 20th). One of the first marriage bonds taken out in the new county of Rockingham. The minister may have been Rev. John Craig. Wit: Wm. Anderson, Richard Madison and Robert Cravens, magistrate. (Who were Wm. Anderson & Richard Madison, were they related to Mr. Ireland?). He owned perhaps 200 acres for which he was taxed, and ran an 'Ordinary', which was maintained by his wife Jennett after his death. William d ca 1805-06, in Rockingham Co., Va., as he is taken off the fee books about that time. Then his son William, Jr., and Jennett ran the 'Ordinary' until Jennett is off the fee books, after 1812-13. She either died or left with her son William, Jr., who went to Ohio in 1811, lived for a while in Gallia Co., O., Salt Creek, then removed to Logan Co.,O. (Bellefontaine).(Mrs Smart has copy of the marriage bond of Wm.,Sr. & Jennett).

4) Sarah Ireland, b ca 1788; m 5 Oct. 1809, to Wm. Sprinkle. Julius S. Foster, surety; wit.

1852; no mention of her. Samuel Gay, her guardian gave his consent.
