Census place: Bathurst, Lanark County, Canada West (District 19, Sub-District 173) John Gibson, 44, male, married, born Scotland, farmer Agnes Gibson, 42, female, married, born Scotland Sarah Gibson, 19, female, single, born England Eliza Gibson, 14, female, born Scotland Jno Gibson, 13, male, born Scotland Mary Gibson, 11, female, born Scotland Margaret Gibson, 7, female, born Upper Canada William Gibson, 5, male, born Upper Canada Samuel Gibson, 3, male, born Upper Canada Andrew Gibson, 2, male, born Upper Canada James Gibson, 1, male, born Upper Canada
Enumerators were asked to round up all ages to the "age next birthday", i.e. James Gibson would have been only some months old. The ages of children under 5 tend to be less accurate than those of older people. Although the name of the province had been changed from Upper Canada to Canada West in 1840, some enumerators of the 1851 census continued to use the old name. Data obtained through Ancestry.ca.
