Research Experience

Once James left the family home after the 1871 census he became difficult to pinpoint.

Following suggestions in other people's family trees found on Ancestry, I considered two possible spouses (one of which appears to have two completely different names with no explanations attached). I have traced him with one of these possible spouses to Manitoba, but the proof is so negligible I have decided to stop tracing him at all. --Goldenoldie 03:14, 4 July 2013 (EDT)

Enumerators were asked to round up all ages to the "age next birthday", i.e. James Gibson would have been only some months old. The ages of children under 5 tend to be less accurate than those of older people.
Although the name of the province had been changed from Upper Canada to Canada West in 1840, some enumerators of the 1851 census continued to use the old name.
