Pension Application of William Fain R3422 VA Transcribed and annotated by C. Leon Harris. Revised 27 July 2014. State of Kentucky } Jessamine County } Sct On the 20th day of May 1833 personally appeared before the Justices of the County Court of Jessamine William Fain a resident of Jessamine County in Kentucky aged 73 years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832 that he was drafted as a Militia Man in the revolutionary war in the year 1781 and served with Captain Lifus Shelton [sic: Eliphaz Shelton] sometime in the month of September and was marched and joined the regular army under the command of General Washington. (From the advanced age and impaired state of this claimants memory he is unable to remember the names of all the field officers nor the regiment or time in which he served) But he is prepared to prove by the certificate of George Stults and Richard Finn here refered to and made a part of this declaration marked A that he was at the siege of York [28 Sep - 19 Oct 1781] and served a three months tour and was regularly discharged. He however does not recollect by whom his discharge was given as it is lost. This declarant further states that at the time he was drafted he was a resident of Patrick County Virginia [sic: formed from Henry County in June 1791]. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or an annuity except the present and he declares that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency in any state. Sworn to and subscribed the day and year aforesaid. William hisXmark Fain NOTE: Fain’s claim was rejected because he did not serve the minimum of six months.
