Since OneWorldTree was used as a source, there is little confidence in the identification of the William Dinwiddie of Kentucky with William Dinwiddie, the son of Thomas and Mary (Davidson) Dinwiddie. On the other hand, this identification is plausible, and thus has not been removed (it can be considered to be a speculation).

It appears from the census records that he did not have a wife in either 1820 or 1830 (unless she was away from home at the time of the censuses). Yet he had children under 10 living with him in 1830. This suggests that he was married a second time after 1820, and that his second wife died before 1830. Alternately, the youngest children in the 1830 census might not have been his own children.
