Pat, Good to hear from you again. I don't have very much on the Guilford County, NC William Denny you mention (on the Reedy Fork; brother to James and Elizabeth Denny; father unknown so far) but will send what I have along in case it's of any help:

FIRST GENERATION

1. William DENNY [S1] was born before 1720 [S2]. Died before May 1770 in Guilford County, NC [S3]. He purchased a section (640 acres) of land from Robert Rankin in 1755 on the Reedy Fork of the Haw River. Rankin was a member of the Nottingham Colony and had purchased the land from the Earl of Granville in 1753. The land was tract #13 of the "Irish Tracts" and was in present-day Guilford County. On Dec. 22, 1754, William had also purchased an additional 650 acres from the Earl of Granville on the Reedy Fork; Grant #35 and this land was in Orange County.

William was listed as a taxpayer in Rowan County, NC in 1768.

From Rowan County, NC, Book A, p. 31, WILLIAM DENNY, written 13 Aug. 1766, probated May 1770. Wife, Ann, has use of Negro Dina who will then go to son James. Son James gets homeplace and negro, Tom, his mother to have life estate. Son WILLIAMS [sic] to have land in Orange County, N.C . Married daughters each get 30 pounds: Hannah, Agness, Jane. Daughters: Cathrine and Margaret [abstract doesn't say what they get]. Execs: wife Ann, sons James and William. Witn: Thos. Donnell, John Rankin, ELIZABETH DENNY (X)

He married Anne ______? [S4] They had the following children:

2 i. Hannah DENNY [S5]
+3 ii. Jean or Jane DENNY

7 vi. William DENNY Jr. [S8] was born about 1742 in PA [S9]. William received his father's land which was located in Orange Co. in

about May, 1770. Per Rankin, he located in Rockingham County...

+8 vii. James DENNY

SECOND GENERATION

3. Jean or Jane DENNY [S10]. Her name was Jean on her marriage license but Raymond Donnell had her name as Jane. She married Robert RANKIN on 28 Feb 1775 in Guilford County, NC [S11]. Bondsman was Henry Reed; witness was Tho. Henderson. Robert RANKIN [S12]

8. James DENNY [S16] was born after 1745. Died after 1799 [S17]. Per the book IRISH SETTLERS IN AMERICA by Michael J O Brien, Volume 1: In Butler Co., PA, the first schoolhouse was built in 1799 near the Winfield-Clearfield Township line and James Denny was the schoolmaster. He came from County Donegal in 1793, locating near Clearfield on a 400-acre tract of land. His wife was Mary O'Donnell, also a native of Donegal. Hope this helps. One of these days, we'll probably find we're cousins <G>. Libbie Griffin (whose Dosses hung out with Dennys; about like your Fultons) finally tied our lines together, late last year via Hollingsworths. Thanks and best of luck.
