1. James DENNY, Sr was born in 1715 in Ireland. Died between 10 Dec 1790/1795 in Guilford County, NC. Per an article on Allen Denny in the book "Surry County Heritage--Vol 1", they left Ireland and came to Lancaster County, PA and all ten of their children were born here. In 1763, they left Lancaster County and came to Guilford County and settled . James, Sr. fought in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in 1781 near his residence. His name appears in the DAR Patriot Index of 1966 on page 188.

James obtained a 650-acre tract from John Nicks (who was also a colonist of the Nottingham group) in 1763. (James was "of Lancaster County, PA" at this time. Witnesses were his brother William Denny and James McQuiston.) Nicks had obtained the property on 4 Dec., 1753 from the Earl of Granville. This land was located east of the site of Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Rowan County (now Guilford County). On October 2 , 1761, James also signed for a grant of 375 acres from the Earl of Granville, lying on Pea Creek, on the waters of the Eno River in Orange County.

He married Janis EDWARDS in 1744 in PA or Ireland?. Janis EDWARDS, died before 1770 in Guilford County, NC.
