1 Sept 1751 - 7 Apr 1752 - (warrant and survey dates). Samuel Sample, assignee of Abraham Wiseman, had 425 acres surveyed on Calverts Run where Abraham lives adjoining Robt. Wilson and Edwd Griffey. The chain carriers were Robt. Calvert and Wm. Corlett. The surveyor was William Baylis. 16 May 1757 - Abraham Wiseman deed.
Known as "Major" or "Gent" Lewis Reno, probably because of his association with the county militia. He served as sheriff of Prince William County, VA in 1753, and was a corporal in the Prince William County, VA militia in 1756 for which he was paid 2,046 pounds of tobacco (Henings, Virginia Statutes, v.7, p.24). From 1761 until his death he was Justice of the Peace and served in the County Court. He dealt extensively in real estate throughout his life. On September 27, 1761, Lewis Reno and his wife Elizabeth Reno (nee WHITLEDGE) released 428 acres to William Baylis of Fairfax County, Virginia. They were noted as being of Dettingen Parish, Prince William County, Virginia. This was the same land granted to him on October 30, 1764. On March 5, 1764, Lewis Reno and Elizabeth sold 69 acres to William French. This was land granted to Lewis Reno by deed on September 24, 1743. In October 1765(? 1759) he was part of a land transaction concerning 519 acres in Frederick County, Virginia. His brother John Reno was a witness on this. In June 1766 he leased 428 acres in Frederick County, Virginia, to Samuel Semple.
  • In Frederick County, Virginia, Deed Book 11, p. 93, June 29, 1766, as transcribed by Amelia C. Gilreath, we find the following:
"[Lease] Between Lewis Reno Sheriff of the Parish of Dettingen County of Prince William [to] Samuel Semple farmer of Parish and County of Frederick . . . consideration of five Shillings . . . (1 2). William Baylis. Little is known of this William Baylis, except that he was the son of William Baylis, (1), and brother of John Baylis, (1 1), and Samuel Baylis, (1 3). This William Baylis died in 1764, as recorded in the Bond Book, p. 26, in the Court House at Manassas, Va., on May 10, 1764. His brother, John Baylis, (1 1), was named as executor. William Baylis fought in the French-Indian Wars, and expected to receive for his services 6000 acres of land on the Kanawha River. On April 21, 1756, he received 2400 lbs. of tobacco for 80 days service. In 1763, he and his company received 35 L, 10/. In Deed Book 10 of Frederick Co., Va., Records, on pp 155 and 157 is recorded the transfer to William Baylis, (1 1 2), by Lewis Reno and his wife Elizabeth, of 428 acres, surveyed by William Baylis, 12. This Lewis Reno is probably the father of George Reno, 115-H. A deed to a lot No. 156 in Winchester was granted to William Baylis, (1 2), by the Rt. Honorable Sir Thomas Fairfax on May 5, 1763. On June 4, 1752, William Baylis was a witness on an indenture in Frederick Co., Va. (Deed Book 2, p 470). On Jan. 19, 1757, William Baylis married Ann Gough. We have found no record of his descendants.
