John Reno , who spelled his and his children's names as Reno in his will , was born on the land patented in 1710 by Lewis Reno and Clemente Chevalle . John's father , Lewis upon his death in 1755 divided the 243 acres equally between John and his brother Thomas . In about 1760 John and his wife Susanna moved northwest to Patterson's Creek in Hampshire County , Virginia on the western side of the Appalachian Mountains which is now a part of West Virginia .

On March 25 1761 , John purchased 293 acres of land on Patterson's Creek and on March 5 1764 he and his wife sold 121.5 acres in Prince William County ( formerly Stafford ) to a William French , except half an acre left by his father for a graveyard .John and his wife appear in land records for Hampshire county in 1761 , 1762 , 1764 , 1765 , 1769 , 1770 and 1771 . About 1773 , after the death of his wife , he moved to Chartier's Creek valley in Washington County , Pennsylvania , which later became Allegheny County .

Between 1784 and 1786 John and nine of his children moved to Washington County , North Carolina which later became Carter County , Tennessee on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina . John and Charles Reno were among the first settlers of the Sinking Creek area . On June 14 1806 John made his will in which he bequeathed 25 cents to all of his children except Charles who inherited everything else .
