When about 19 Charles moved with his family to Chartiers Creek in Washington Co , Pa near present day Pittsburgh . Records show he was a Pvt First Class i Capt. Reed's 2nd Company , 4th Battalion , Washington Co. Pa Militia during the Revolutionary War . No land or census records have been found for Charles in western Pa. . but his father and brothers lived there and his first four children were born in Allegheny Co , Pa .

He was in Washington County , North Carolina/Tennessee from 1788 through 1795 apparently as a land speculator as there are many deeds assigned for him in North Carolina and Tennessee .He along with other family members were part of the congregation of the Sinking Creek Baptist Church , organized in 1722 in Carter county , Tn which is the oldest church in Tn still existing at it's original location . While a member of the church he was "defellowshipped" by the church for "arguing and leaving the church in a rude and angry manner" .

It is believed that he moved to the Muddy Creek area of Jefferson County Tn. and that his wife Elizabeth died there . When Charles's eldest son John moved to Albany , Kentucky , near the Ky/Tn border , it appears Charles went with him and died there though no grave site has been located .
