RETIRED FARMER IS DEAD AT AGE OF 66 April 1, 1958 Funeral Services for Walter W. Housel of near Butler to be Held in Auburn Thursday Afternoon A farmer who resided in this area all of his lifetime, Walter W. Housel, 66, of two miles east of Butler, died at his home at 3:30 A.M. Tuesday from a complication of ailments. Mr Housel had been in ill health for approximately eight years. The body was removed to the Wm. H. Loy funeral home in Auburn where friends may call after 1 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at 2 P.M. Thursday with the Rev. Joseph Ferguson of near Auburn, officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, near Auburn. Mr. Housel was born at St Johns on Dec 7, 1891, the son of the late Hiram and Delilah Housel. He and Mabel Goetschius were married April 11, 1917. The couple resided in Auburn for a number of years and on farms in this area. Mr. Housel was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Cedar Chapel Methodist church. Surviving besides the wife are two daughters, Mrs Rose Gabet or Rt 1, Butler, Mrs. Rhea Housel of RT 10, Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren and a brother, Arthur Housel of St Johns. two other daughters preceded him in death.


Butler - Services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday in the Loy Funeral home, Auburn, for Walter W. Housel, 66, native and lifelong resident of Dekalb County, who died Tuesday morning at his home near here after an extended illness. The Rev. Joseph Ferguson will officiate, and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn. Surviving are the widow Mabel; two daughters, Mrs Rose Gabet, near Butler, and Mrs Rhea Berry, R. R. 10 Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren and a brother.


SERVICES HELD FOR FORMER RESIDENT Funeral services were held Thursday at the Loy Funeral home at Auburn for Walter W. Housel, 66 a former New Haven resident who died the preceding Tuesday, after suffering poor health for eight years. Surviving are the wife, Mabel, two daughters, Mrs. Rose Gabet, Butler and Mrs. Rhea Berry, R. R. 7, Fort Wayne. On Wednesday evening Mrs Alta Meagher, Mrs Glada Swartz, Mrs. Ama Haney, Mrs. Agnes Bauserman, Mrs. Betty Blodgett and Miss Leola Bandolier called at the funeral home.

July 15, 2006 - From Rose Ann ---------- hi Linda, when i saw that that pic of my grandparents didn't come through, i re-sent it to you. sure hope you got it ok. on their wedding day, they got on a train from auburn, and traveled to Jackson Mich. where they got married by a minister at a church there. don't know why they chose Jackson, or if arrangements were made ahead of time, but they got married and then caught the train home. set up housekeeping the same evening. nobody went with them .  ?????? i always thought her blouse was pretty, with all the lace, never heard any other details.
