Death has taken one from our midst well known in the village of Milton and Milton Junction, and better known in West Hallock, Peoria Co., Illinois where he helped to make that community what it is, a thrifty God fearing people.

Deacon Truman Saunders was born in Berlin, New York Nov. 13, 1814 and died Nov. 24, 1894, aged 80 years and 11 day. He moved to Illinois in 1854, where he resided until he came to Milton fifteen years ago. He bought a large tract of land in Illinois and by industry, act and economy he succeeded in paying for and improving his land which though sold to others is now worth $100 per acre. But Deacon Saunders will be remembered not for what he acquired of real estate, but for what he was, an unexceptionably fine man. He was of excellent stock to begin with; received a good education for those days, taught school in New Jersey when young, was afterwards a merchant and finally a model farmer. He was successful in everything owing to his natural talent, application, honesty and many qualities which combine to render one successful in life. Above all he was a conscientious christian, kind and gentle in his intercourse with others and firm as a rock where any principle was involved. He leaves a daughter, four sons and two sisters. The funeral exercises were largely attended on Tuesday at the S. D. B. Church of which he was an esteemed member, Rev. E. M. Dunn officiating assisted by President Whitford.
