Jane Yeatman ~ widow Dower; Recorded March 7, 1834
to the Worshipful the County Court of Davidson County at its January Term 1834. Your petitioner, Jane Yeatman of said county respectfully represents to your Worships that on the 11th day of June 1833 Thomas Yeatman a citizen of said county died in said county, leaving your said petitioner his widow and as such entitled to legal dower out of said decedents estate, he having departed this life without any last will or testament, and your petitioner would further represent to your worships that the said Thomas Yeatman at the time of his death was seized of the following described parcels of real property situate in the said county and town of Nashville and described and bounded as follows, viz: the whole of Lot No. 31 in the plan of the Academy Lots at the corner of Broad and Cherry Streets purchased by said Thomas Yeatman of William Sneed upon which are situate the dwelling house out houses & c. last occupied by said Yeatman before his death, the whole of Lot No. 45 as designated in the original plan of the Town of Nashville purchased in part by Timothy Demumbre and in part of Joseph T. Elliston Executor of said Demumbre upon which are situate the dwelling house of the late Timothy Demumbre the ironstore house lately erected by the said Thomas Yeatman and the warehouse formerly occupied by Norvell & Walkers; 25 feet of Lot No. 39 fronting on College Street on which is situate the Stone house now occupied by Henry Yeatman with a dwelling house above said store house occupied by Mrs. Cooper, which said parcel of ground was purchased by G.M. Deadericks Executors by said Yeatman by Deed dated 16 December 1822 and registered in the Registers Office of said county in Book Q pages 198$ 199; one half of Lot No. 41 of the Academy Lots situate on Broad Street adjoining Lot No. 31 above mentioned conveyed to said Yeatman by Timothy D. Lawrence by deed dated 15 December 1827 and registered as aforesaid in book R. Page 437, & adjoining the parcel of ground last mentioned a small piece of ground conveyed to said Yeatman by Collin M. Cowardin by deed dated the ! day of June 1830 and registered as aforesaid in Book S page 624 running 20 feet in one direction & 57 in the other; also one half of Lot No. 57 in the plan of said town situate at the corner of Broad & Cherry Streets conveyed to said Yeatman by Herbert Cook and Lydia Cook by deed dated the 21st day of December 1826 and registered as aforesaid in Book R page 183, and fronting one half on Cherry Street and the whole depth of said Lot on Broad Street; also a small parcel of ground part of Lot No. 50 in the plan of said Town being all of said Lot which was bought by said Yeatman of the Executor of G.M. Deaderick dec'd except what was sole and conveyed by him before his death to Hunt, Tardiff & Co upon which is situate a stable, one fourth of a Lot part of . . . No. 57 bought of Micahah Fly for which there appears to be no deed registered. Of all of which said several pieces or parcels of ground the said Jane Yeatman your petitioner is entitled to Dower according to the Law - in such case made and provided. Your petitioner would therefore pray your worships to issue a writ directed to the Sheriff of said county commanding him to summon a Jury to allot and set apart to your petitioner her dower of such Lands as her deceased husband died seized of in said county and having so done upon the report of said Jury decree to your petitioner her dower so laid off: and further to do all and whatsoever the equity of her case may seem to require. And your petitioner will ever pray & c.

Jane Yeatman Complainant agst. Thomas Yeatman Dec'd heirs Defendants; Petition for Dower.
This day came the complainant by her attorney. And it appearing to the satisfaction of the court that Robert Woods Guardian adlitem for William T. Yeatman, James Yeatman, Emma Yeatman, Thomas Yeatman and Henry C. Yeatman, the children and minor heirs of the said Thomas Yeatman deceased has had ten days previous notice of the time and place of presenting the petition and that the said Thomas Yeatman died seized and possessed of the several tracts or parcels and Lots of land set forth and particularly mentioned and described in the complainants petition and that she is entitled as his widow and relict to have her legal dower in said Lands and premises laid off to her according to Law & is therefore ordered, adjudged and decreed by the court that the Sheriff of this county summon a Jury of good and Lawful men unconnected with the said Complainant or Defendants either by affinity or consanquinity and them being first duly sworn proceed to lay off and set apart to said Complainant by proper metes and boundaries her legal dower out of the several tracts pieces Lots or parcels of land mentioned and particularly described in the petition in this case according to Law and put her in possession of the same and having so done make report thereof to our present or ensuing court.

    Thomas Yeatman, died on board a steamboat during his passage from Nashville to Louisville, on June 12, 1855 [s/b 1833] in the 45th year of his age.

    He sustained the tryng conflict with Christian magnanimity and with pius resignation to the Divine will, breathed his last sigh on the bosom of his afflicted wife, and is it then to live when such friends part. Tis the suvivor dies. A citizen of Nashville, Tennessee. He was the poor man's friend.

    Note: the current Find-A-Grave Memorial for Thomas Yeatman has incorrect birth and death years, the Find-A-Grave contributor has been messaged and requested to correct the dates per all of the other records showing that he died in 1833 at age 45.
