Facts and Events
Thomas Aaron Springett was born on 27th May 1911 at Maidstone in Kent, son of Beatrice Springett, formerly Porter, and her husband Thomas Springett, a labourer in the building trade. The 1911 census, taken the month before young Thomas’s birth, finds the family living at 182 Wheeler Street in Maidstone.
Thomas’s next sighting is in 1931, when he married Norah Meekins. They married in the Maidstone area, and they appear in the electoral register later that year living with Thomas’s parents at 11 George Street in Maidstone.
After their marriage, Thomas and Norah went on to have five children between 1934 and 1946, born at various locations across Kent.
At the outbreak of the Second World War, Thomas and Norah were living at Combourne Farm in Goudhurst, where they appear to have been one of several households of field workers, who were presumably only temporarily staying on the farm for seasonal work. Thomas was described as a builder’s labourer at this time.
Thomas died in 1967 in Hertfordshire, aged 55. Norah survived him by 22 years.
