Captain Thomas Southworth
Facts and Events
Thomas Southworth was brother to Constant Southworth; they were sons of the second wife of William Bradford. Thomas served in numerous offices, including Commissioner of the United Colonies 1659-1669.
In his will, dated 18 November 1669 and proved 1 March 1669/70,
"Captain Thomas Southworth" bequeathed to "my daughter Elizabeth Howland all my housing and lands both upland and meadow within the township of Plymouth"; to "daughter Elizabeth and unto her husband Joseph Howland" "all my other lands out of the township of Plymouth" to pay debts of the estate; "my rapier and belt to my son-in-law Joseph Howland"; to Thomas Faunce 40s.; to Deborah Morton 40s.; to "William Churchill" a sheep; "that lot and half of land which is at the Eel River which was exchanged by Mr. Willam Bradford deceased with John Faunce for a lot at Jonses River I do yield up all my interest in the said lot & half of land to Thomas Faunce"; "the rest of my estate I leave in the hands of my son Joseph Howland and my daughter his wife & my brother Constant Southworth to be disposed of as they shall see reason for the supply of my wife in her poor condition" [ MD 18:185, citing PCPR 3:1].

"THOMAS, Plymouth, br. of Constant, prob. younger, came with him, was a milit. lieut. and capt. an Assist. 1652 and twelve times aft. until 1667, d. 8 Dec. 1669, in his 53d yr. He and his br. Constant were among the purch. of Dartmouth. He m. Sept. 1641, Elizabeth d. of Rev. John Reyner, had only d. Elizabeth wh. m. 7 Dec. 1664, lieut. Joseph, s. of John Howland of the Mayflower's glorious comp."
