THOMAS SMITH, (3—2), of Fauquier Co., Va., b. about 1747, in Washington Parish, Westmoreland Co., Va. ; d. about 1796, in Fauquier Co., Va. ; was a planter, and a supporter of the Episcopal Church; m. July 13, 1769, Elizabeth Adams, b. July 20, 1754; dau. of John and Sarah Stacy (Gibbon) Adams, of St. Charles Co., Md. and later of Fauquier Co., Va., gr.-dau. of John and Elizabeth (Naylor) Adams, of England, and later of St. Charles Co., Md. John Adams, the progenitor of the family in Maryland, was a first cousin of Lord Lit tleton, and educated with him at Oxford. He came to Maryland in 1700.
