Thomas Slater Newborn was baptised on 20th October 1835 at Barnack in Northamptonshire, son of a labourer and gardener named Charles Newborn and his wife Mary Slater. He was given his mother's maiden name as a middle name, and actually appears to have been known by his middle name. He appears in the 1841 and 1851 censuses with his parents and siblings. Slater has yet to be traced after the 1851 census.
