- Vol. 2 - JUDGMENTS. SEPTEMBER, 1802 (A to R). - Dunkenson, et ux., vs. Moore--Ejectment from Rockingham. Thomas Dunkerson and Lucretia Dunkerson, his wife, heirs-at-law of Thomas Moore, deceased, six plantations, containing 1,700 acres. Defendants are Reuben, John and Thomas Moore. Copy of patent by Fauquier to Thomas Moore, 26th July, 1765, 200 acres on Smith's Creek, between Davison's, Philips' and Rambo's lands, Buchanans' Cor. Same by Botetourt to Thomas L. Moore, 12th May, 1770, 190 acres on Smith's Creek, Michael Bowyer's line, Thomas Looker's line. Same by same, to Thomas Moore, 12th May, 1770, on Smith's Creek, corner J. Woodley land; John Philips, corner. Same by Fauquier to Valentine Sevear, 200 acres on Smith's Creek, crossing Daniel Jones' Branch, 27th June, 1764. Consideration is importation of four persons, viz: James Porteus, John Poe, Patrick McDonald and Daniel Warner. Patent by Gooch, 12th January, 1746, to James Wood, for 370 acres on Smith's Creek. Patent by Fauquier, 31st October, 1765, to Thomas Looker (Lobker ?) for 68 acres on Long Meadows or North River Shan. Deed by Thomas Loker, of Rockingham, 17th February, 1791, to Thomas Moore, Sr. Thomas Loker. Test: Reuben Moore, Thomas Loker, Jr., Philip Counce, recorded Rockingham, 27th June, 1791. 20th August, 1801, jury, John Carthrea, Jr., George Rader, Jacob Bear, Mathias Anson, Michael Lohr, James Green, George Chrisman, David Caldwell, John Crotzer, Casper Mifford, Evan Thomas, Alexander Graham. Jury find Thomas Moore died intestate, 1797, leaving plaintiff, Lucretia, and defendants, his only children, appeal to Supreme Court, and their appeal dismissed. Judgment for plaintiffs.
- Vol. 2 - Zechariah Hoy vs. Gordon McWilliams--O. S. 316; N. S. 113--Bill, 1815. Henry Martz deposes, in Rockingham, 25th February, 1820, he is 52 years old 1st of September next. Deed, 16th October, 1810, by Jacob Pickering and Hannah of Rockingham to Zackariah Hoy, 20 acres on Smith's Creek in Rockingham, part of tract patented to Jacob Woodle, 1st August, 1772. Recorded in Rockingham, October, 1810. Patent, 5th September, 1745, to Thomas Lockhar in consideration of importation of William Phillips, James Mills and Thos. Miller, 120 acres in Augusta on Smith's Creek. Deed, 20th October, 1801, by John Vance and Catherine of Rockingham to David Fisher, 27 acres, corner Thos. Lookey. Recorded in Rockingham, October, 1801. John Looker deposes, 6th August, 1819, went to a schoolhouse on the land many years since, kept by Joseph Simpson. Deed, 27th September, 1796, by Wm. Pickering and wife Barbara to Mathias Fry, all of Rockingham, 62 acres part of 89 acres patented to Wm., 22d May, 1789. Recorded Rockingham, September, 1796. Reuben Moore was son-in-law of plaintiff Gordon McWilliams (?). Walter Newman was brother-in-law of Hoy. Patent, 28th April, 1804, to David Fisher, 4-3/4 acres in Rockingham. Corner Pickeron's land. Patent, 22d May, 1789, to Wm. Pickering, assignee of George Keesle, 89 acres on Smith's Creek. Deed, 30th November, 1813, by Wm. Pickering of Kanawha County to Zackariah Hoy of Rockingham, 80 acres part of 89 acres patented to said William. Recorded in Rockingham, February, 1814. Deed, 9th December, 1805, by Jacob Hook and Catherine of Shenandoah to Zackariah Hoy of Rockingham, 62 acres conveyed to Jacob by Mathias Fry by deed recorded. Recorded in Rockingham, 18th March, 1806. Patent, 26th April, 1815, to John Loker, assignee of Abraham Reed, 8 acres in Rockingham. Patent, 20th June, 1817, to Zackariah Hoy, 4 acres in Rockingham.
- Vol. 2 - Looker vs. Dunkinson--O. S. 376; N. S. 137--Bill, 6th January, 1823, by Sarah Loker, widow, of Rockingham. Her father, John Reeves, of Rockingham, died, testate; will dated 5th May, 1799, and died in same year, leaving representatives, widow, Margaret, who died intestate and unmarried, 1814, and children, viz: Oratrix, William, John, Mary Reeves; Lydia, wife of Elijah Moore, of whom William died, 1807, leaving nine children, viz: Reuben, Phoebe, Lydia, John, Thos., who were all in being at the date of the will, and four others, viz: Cressy, who died infant, Polly, Brewer, William, born after death of testator. John, other son of testator, died, intestate, unmarried, and without issue, about 1819. Mary Reeves married Charles Moore and had one child, Edith. Mary died 1810; Edith died 1816. Lidia Moore had at testator's death children still alive. Thomas Dunkanson qualified administrator for testator and moved to Kentucky. Ro. Dunkeson deposes, nephew of said John Reeves, Jr., and son of Thos. Dunkinson. His father settled in Christian County, and sent deponent to Hopkins County to school to said John Reeves. About Christmas time John married Miss Sally Taylor, daughter of Isaac Taylor of Hopkins County; then John moved to Illinois, where Jno. died, leaving one child, Isaac. Will of John Reeves, of Rockingham. William Reeves's five children, viz: Reuben, Phoebe, Lydia, John, Thos. and William's wife. Eve. Wife, Margaret. Four children, Sarah Lokey, John and Mary Reeves and Lydia Moore. Executor, Thos. Dunkanson. Son-in-law, Elijah Moore. Dated 5th May, 1799. Recorded in Rockingham, July, 1799. Deed, dated 30th March, 1815, by executor of John Reeves to John Homan, Jr., of Rockingham, 390 acres, directed by Reeves's will to be sold. Recorded in Rockingham, 30th March, 1815. Deed, 26th May, 1824, by Daniel Matthews of Rockingham to Henry Shaver of Botetourt, 50 acres in Rockingham, on a hill known as Round Hill, between Linville's and Smith Creek, part of tract purchased by Daniel from his father, Solomon, which was first granted to Jacob Lincoln by patent (?). Recorded in Rockingham, 6th September, 1824. (Note: Sarah Reeves was the wife of this Thomas Looker (Loker)).
