U.S. Army Ret. : Goodson, Thomas, born 8/18/1755 in Frederick County, Maryland; moved when age 5 with father to reside on New River, Augusta County, Virginia; entered service 1776 in Botetourt County, Virginia where he resided; granted Pension 1832 in Floyd County (area formerly part of Botetourt County), Virginia; wife died 2/5/1837; soldier died there 9/3/1837 leaving 6 children including William, Elizabeth, Polly Sandefer, & John; son William applied for Pension there in 1852; query letter in file states soldier was known as Thomas Jr.; query letter in file in 1930 from descendant Mrs. L.P. Thornton, Portland, Oregon states soldier's middle initial was W; query letter in file in 1914 from great great grandson Robert Lynn Fox, New York, New York, who was great grandson of soldier's son George.
