Theodore Writer attended the Seward Institute at Florida, Orange Co., New York, for three years.[1] He then enrolled his name as a student of medicine in the office of Dr. A. Cook, of Otisville.[1] Later he entered the office of Dr. D. C. Logue, in New York, and graduated from the Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1866.[1] After a year of professional labor in New York he became associated with his former preceptor, Dr. Cook, where he since continued in practice.[1]

In politics he was described as a “stanch Republican”.[1]
