Land Grants / Indentures

3 Dec 1715, John Ellis of Henrico planter, 5000 lbs tobacco, to Robert Napier of same, 150 A bounded by Peters Branch of Tuckahoe Crk, sd Ellis, Hardings branch, Fra [sic] Chumley bought of Thomas Harding, pt of which land Ellis bought of Mr Allen Clark & pt being part of Ellis’ new patent. Signed John (IE) Ellis, Susanna wife rein dower. Henrico Co VA Deeds 1706-1737

NOTE: This indenture and an 1849 booklet by Thomas Harding Ellis entitled 'A Memorandum of the Ellis Family" that names John Ellis's wife as Susannah. They do not provide a surname. The Summer 1994 Ellis Cousins Newsletter on page 50 says that Joseph Royal of James RIver has been well documented and there is no Susannah in the family. Additionally the Royal family was not in close proximity to the Ellis family. So 'Royal' being Susannah's maiden name is suspect!
