Weber vs. Weaver

Like his children, Samuel Weber is recorded both as Weber and Weaver. In M.G. Weaver's history, Samuel is recorded with the birth name Samuel Weber but as an adult is referred to as Samuel Weaver.

Excerpt from M.G. Weaver's history [1]

Samuel Weaver married Anna Heatwole, daughter of Mathias Heatwole; the Heatwole family lived two miles north of New Holland, and later moved to Virginia. Samuel Weaver (some of his family spelled it Weber) and family lived on twelve acres of land near the mouth of Blue Ball run near the old Weber homestead, the place now owned by Mrs. Aaron Horst, where their large family was reared and where they both died and repose in the old family graveyard. He was a weaver of linens.

Comment on his child Samuel Shirk

It is not clear if this last name should be Weaver. I have transcribed the list of children as written in M.G. Weaver's history [1]. However, Samuel's older sister married a Peter Shirk; this is listed just before Samuel in the list of children and there could be a human error in recording Samuel's last name. Or the Shirk family could have been close family friends and left Samuel to be raised with the Weavers.
