Weber vs. Weaver

Both names have been applied to this character. In M.G. Weaver's history [2], Daniel's birth is recorded as Daniel Weber while he is listed as Daniel Weaver in his adult family section. He is referred to as Weber by his grandson Henry G. Weaver [1].

We have two written documents relating to Daniel Weber.

Excerpt from Annals of Berks Co., PA [1]

The grandfather of Henry G. Weaver, of Morgantown, was Daniel Weber, who was born in 1780, and died in 1860, after spending his life in Cumberland county. He married a Miss Buckwalter, who died in 1815, and among their children was a son, Moses, the father of Henry G. Moses Weaver was born near Manheim, Lancaster Co., Pa., March 4, 1813, and died Jan. 5, 1895. He married Elizabeth Grube, born in February, 1814, who died in July, 1891, and was buried at Weaverland.

Excerpt from M.G. Weaver's history [2]

Daniel Weaver was married three times; his first wife was Elizabeth Buckwalter, his second wife was Esther Andrews, and his third wife was Mary Weaver, in the George Weber line of descent. She was married before to Abraham Kauffman, with whom she had a number of children. After Daniel Weaver's death, she married Preacher Henry Auker, her sister, Anna's, widower. Her father, David Weaver, and his family moved from Lanc. Co. to Mifflin, now Juniata Co., in 1806. Daniel Weaver had seven children with his first wife, and four with his second wife, and one daughter with his third wife. His family lived in the vicinity of Elizabethtown many years; his first and second wives are buried in the beautiful cemetery at Risser's Mennonite meetinghouse. After his third marriage and possibly before that time the family lived in Cumb. Co. He, with several of his family, are buried in Walters graveyard; and his last wife, Mary, is interred at Slate Hill.

Analysis

From reading Montgomery's "Annals of Berks Co., PA" [1], one would be lead to believe that the parents of Daniel Weber are Christian Weber (1731) and Magdalena Ruth. However this does not seem to be the case from reading M.G. Weaver's "Weber - Weaver History" [2]. The quality of information in Weaver's book seems to be higher; e.g., the birth and death years do not seem to be precisely given by Henry G. Weaver in the "Annals of Berks Co., PA" [1].
