Facts and Events
Samuel Singleton was baptised in October 1846 at Foston in Lincolnshire, the eldest child of a coachman and groom named Robert Singleton and his wife Eliza Worth Bonser. Robert and Eliza had married in January 1846 at Eliza's native East Stoke in Nottinghamshire, but then clearly returned to Robert's native Foston before Samuel was born. By 1851 the family had left Foston and moved to the village of Allington in Lincolnshire.
Samuel grew up in Allington. His parents had another nine children after him, although their second child died young. There was nearly 25 years between Samuel and his youngest sister Ada.
It has not been possible to trace Samuel after 1861 - there appears to have been more than one Samuel Singleton born at about the same time in Foston, and once he had left his parents' home is is difficult to decide which one is him.
