This source was published 1886, NEHGR was 1858, one would guess Bates was working with a deteriorated page relative to the NEHGR transcription, and may have inferred the year 1655 based on the order of the 4 sibling births given as a group (both sources give the same order with Samuel last, 1655 would fit the order, 1645 is out of order). However, 1655 would make Samuel too young to marry in 1673/74.]
