Interestingly, Anderson does not address the data points discussed by Sylvester Judd pointing to a 1653 date of birth.

Samuel Judd, youngest son of Deac. Thomas Judd, came to Northampton and married Mariah Strong, daughter of Thomas Strong and Mary (Hewet,) about 1681. He seems to have lived in the house with his father, and after his decease, took care of his widow, and she gave to him her property, which had been the estate of Thomas Mason. He died Jan. 10, 1721, and his age was 67, according to his grave stone, thus placing his birth in 1653, which is probably correct. The Farmington church record makes him 6 years old in 1657, which appears to be erroneous, for he was not of age, Jan. 8, 1673, and so was not a proprietor of Farmington, when all his brothers were proprietors. His widow died May 18, 1751, aged 87 years and 8 or 9 months. Her name is usually spelled Mariah or Moriah in the records. She belonged to a family of 16 children.

Samuel Judd lived on the Mason Homestead in Pleasant street, Northampton. Besides the Mason estate, he had land in Farmington given by his father, and he had his share in the divisions of his father's lands, made after his death. His father had engaged for him an 80£ allotment in Waterbury; as he did not settle there, it was forfeited. There was a time when all the six brothers intended to settle at Waterbury.

Samuel Judd's descendants may be called the Northampton and South Hadley Branch. As Samuel was the youngest son, the generations of his descendants are 20, 30, or more years later than the corresponding numerical generations of the posterity of the oldest son, William.
