That he was born in Bedford County Virginia and as he believes in the year 1755 or 1754 as appears from a record of his age in his fathers Bible which is now bears.
That he entered the service of the United States as a militia, whether a volunteer or not he cannot now certainly say, under the command of Colonel John Winn, Captain Robert Allison's Company, he was a private. This service was in the State of South Carolina. That the command he was with were ordered to the Sisters Ferry on the Savannah [River], that from there they marched towards Charleston, at Coosahatchie Bridge they had an engagement with the enemy: and retreated into Charleston, entered the lines of that place. The City was soon there afterwards besieged by the enemy but he only served out his term of service there and returned home after a service of four months this was in the year 1779.
That his next service was in the year 1780 under the command of Captain Robert Springs, his company joined General Gates Army and was in the Army when defeated near Camden I was there wounded. He went to the house of a friend where he lay & remained until his wounds healed. This tour of duty was three months.
His next Service was in the State of South Carolina near Rocky Mount under the command of Captain John McLure [sic, John McClure] as a militia volunteer they fell in with the enemy had a brisk skirmish with them & took 12 prisoners & routed them he was out as he thinks this tour about three months.
In the year 1781 he was again in the service as a volunteer militia man under the command of Colonel Dickson [Joseph Dickson] of the North Carolina Militia, Captain Moore's company. He was marched through North Carolina in the protection of the Country & in [indecipherable word] of the enemy. He was in this tour in an engagement with the enemy. He was out this tour for three months & received a discharge signed by Colonel Dickson, which he now has.
During this period he lived in South Carolina York District and in part in Lincoln County North Carolina. In the year 1778 he thinks he left Virginia & came to South Carolina. He has no discharges except the one from Col. Dickson the rest if he got any are lost. He served with General Gates a Continental officer. At Sisters Ferry or Black Swamp General Moultrie as he thinks was the commander. He can procure no documentary evidence of his services except the discharge which he here produces. He can procured the evidence of no person here or elsewhere that he knows of to prove his services.

whatever and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any State.
