    1 Dec 1778: Bond of Aaron Blanchard barber as administrator of the estate of Samuel Francis late of Medford aforesaid laborer deceased intestate.
    7 Dec 1778: Inventory and division of real estate: advances during lifetime of father: John & Samuel Francis sons of the deceased received nothing, Lydia a daughter, Mary a daughter, Hanner a daughter, Sarah a daughter, Rebeckah a daughter all did; real estate set off to heirs of John Francis Eldest son of the Deceased, and to Josiah Smith Jun'r Eldest son of Sarah his Mother Deceased.
    15 Dec 1778: Judge's decree: real estate settled on heirs of John Francis eldest son of Samuel Francis late of Medford & unto Josiah Smith jr. a grandson of the s'd dec'd by his daughter Sarah deceased, Josiah [received "more than his share"] to pay administrator of estate of Samuel Francis, Mary Tufts, Lydia Blunt, heirs of Hannah Dickson, his brother Abraham Smith, Rebekah Blanchard.
    2 Mar 1779: estate represented insolvent, committee commissioned to review claims.

  3. The death record in Medford VRs, p. 374, for "Mr. Samuel Francis" on 29 Sep 1775 shows an age of death of 40, which could not be right for this man. The problem is made worse by his son's death, apparently also in 1775, and the confusion this causes. See a discussion of this issue on the son's page Person:Samuel Francis (39). No clear answer exists, but possibly the age at death is an error, wrongly taken from the record for the wife of Samuel Jr. who died in 1775, age 40.
