Personal History

Sally Coy (1810-1878)

Sally is reported to have had "quite a life" by her great grandson, Joseph Murdock. She had 2 or 3 husbands and the last one was the hired hand, but she ran the family farm through it all.

She took boarders into their farmhouse, one of which was Eugene Wright while he was managing construction of the nearby Downer Oil Refinery in Corry. He fell in love with her daughter, Melissa Williams and they were married. After Melissa died giving birth to her first child, Helen Janette (Mocco) Wright, Sally raised Mocco as a baby. At some point in Mocco's life, Sally was too old and Janette's sister, Melissa, continued to raise her. As Mocco recalls, her step-mother, Alice O. (Seek) Wright was not kind to her which explained why she was raised by her grandmother and aunt, rather than by Alice.
