Image:SawyersRobertBeverleySWMap.JPG

Robert Sawyer's land (Beverley Manor SW, 247 acres, 1751, acquired from his father, David Sawyers) as shown on the map meticulously drawn by J.R. Hildebrand, cartographer. This map is copyrighted©, used by permission of John Hildebrand, son of J.R. Hildebrand, April, 2009.

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Page 157.--24th November, 1751. David Sayer to Robert Sayer, 247 acres, 3 R., 6 P. Sold by Wm. Beverley to Joseph Reed, 2d July, 1740, and 26th September, 1741, and by Reed to Sayer; James Robinson's line, Christian's Creek; Brooks line; Robert Wilson (formerly Francis Beaty); corner Wm. Thompson's corner. Teste: Danl. Gove, David Sayer. (Note: the David Sayer listed here was David Sawyer, Sr., Robert's father).

Disposition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Page 312.--10th April, 1754. Robert Sayer and Hannah to Geo. Rogers, £9.5.0. 50 acres in Beverley Manor, part of 2 tracts conveyed in fee by Beverley to Joseph Reed and by Joseph Reed to David Sayer and by David to Robert Sayer; corner Ro. Sayer in Wm. Thompson's line; corner in said Roger's old line; Robert Wilson's line.

Will and Estate Administration of Robert Sawyers

  • Page 178.--3d September, 1756. Robert Sayers' nuncupative will--To second son Robert (infant), all real estate bought from his brother David Sayers; father was testator's security in above purchase; to son Robert, a saddle which Wm. Scott is making; son, David (infant), which is a fool. Proved, 20th November, 1756, by Jno. Christian, John Hunter, Chas. Campbell. Was objected to by David Sayers, to whom administration was granted, because the will was not signed, but as Campbell and Hunter testified that the testator acknowledged it as his will, it is recorded and administration is rescinded; then administration is granted David as next of kin (Hannah, the widow, refusing to qualify), who qualifies with Jno. Ramsey and John Hunter.
  • Page 168.--17th November, 1756. David Sayer's bond (with David Hays, Jno. Hunter) as administrator of Robert Sayers. (Note: it is not clear if the David Sayers listed as the administator is the father or brother of Robert, although it is more likely that it would have been David Sawyers, Sr.).
  • Page 188.--26th January, 1757. Robert Sawyer's appraisement, by Robert Christian, William Long, James Alexander.
  • Page 229.--15th March, 1758. Robert Sayer's estate appraisement.
